Parent Tip: If you missed the deadline, do not feel that it is a lost cause. Many private schools will work with you and allow you to pay the difference, pay some, or in some cases you may not have to pay at all depending on the individual schools fees etc. Additionally, many parents have reported to us that they were not informed of the deadline and it was extended for them because they had extenuating circumstances. (McKayScholarship.com is a school directory for parents and does not substantiate or know this to be true, it is simply what has been reported to us.) The information regarding the deadlines was found on the department of education's website at www.floridaschoolchoice.org.
The deadlines for intent filing, private school enrollment, and quarterly payments are set by Florida Statute.
For the 2008-09 school year:
If you filed intent by:
July 3
Sept. 2
Dec. 3
Jan. 31
Your child must be enrolled by:
Aug. 2
Oct. 2
Jan. 2
Mar. 2
For the school to receive payment on:
Sept. 1
Nov. 1
Feb. 1
April 1
Maximum scholarship amount for rest of the year:
100%
75%
50%
25%
Payment Period:
7/1 - 9/30
10/1 - 12/31
1/1 - 2/29
3/1 - 6/30
The scholarship amount is the state maximum amount or the private school tuition and fees, whichever is less. The scholarship amount is divided into four quarterly payments for the school year. If intent is filed or the student is enrolled after a deadline, the student will not be eligible to receive that quarter’s scholarship payments, but will have met the deadline to receive payment the next quarter.
